In the studio, away from direct contact with my subject, I have to work in a different way to when painting en plein air. Sometimes a starting point will be a particular aspect of handling the medium that I am currently enjoying. I may also use this as a basis for experimentation, which is essential to one’s continuing development as a painter, and which I find is more suited to studio than plein air working.
These pieces may require re-working more than once before I arrive at a watercolour painting that works on its own terms.
All paintings are for sale unless otherwise stated, and I add more to the gallery regularly. Most are on half-imperial size paper, being approx 12.5 x 19.5” image size (31 x 51cm). For price and other purchase information please see the Shop page, or contact me if you have any enquiry.
