One of several paintings in my galleries that featured as step-paintings in Leisure Painter magazine. A very 'changable weather' day in June, the sun not staying out for long at a time. On the mendip hills, and an area where the pasture fields have many great old trees in the hedgerows. Not a common thing to find so many, and I spotted this on a previous journey. In the end I walked past a lot of them, taking many photos (including of the sky, which was great at the time) and noting a couple of painting spots I'll return to. At the furthest point of my planned walk (thanks to the excellent OS maps phone app) was this church and neighbouring farm at Emborough. A lovely rural Somerset scene, and this was right on the footpath across the field. I had a few interested sheep around me once or twice, but other than that only saw a few cyclists and cars pass along the road behind those gates.
