A grey day, but I like those just as much as any other - they have their place and can be equally atmospheric when out in the landscape. I actually visited Puxton to paint the church which has a leaning tower, but couldn't find a perfect viewpoint, owing to very wet fields around it. I recalled this view I'd seen just before on driving into the village, so walked back down the lane and found a field gateway to set the easel up in. The painting is one of many where I used only my three-colour palette, ideal for low-light situations (such as a grey day) of Indian Red, Thalo blue (red shade) and Raw Umber.
