A very enjoyable challenge to paint this jumble of boats and boaty remnants! The dramatic cliffs with Uphill's ruined St Mary's church on top provide a great subject from various vantage points. This was a great day for plein air painting - not too hot, a fairly consistent light (not a bright one!) and a moderate breeze, just as it should be at the coast. A tricky subject, but again, enjoyable for the challenge and just because it's such a relaxed and pleasant place to be. I really liked the composition as soon as I set eyes on this scene, with its combination of varying shape types, and complex (and vague) areas that needed some simplification.
