Watercolour Landscape Painting Tuition
In Bristol And The UK, With Jem Bowden

I really enjoy helping people learn to paint and I provide various types of tuition. I teach watercolour painting one-to-one in my Bristol studio and I offer instructional videos online.  I also teach courses and offer residential watercolour painting holidays. I run shorter-format painting workshops and give demonstrations around the UK too. Have a look at the sections below for more information about how you can learn watercolour painting with me, and click through from each section for further details. If I can help with anything then please get in touch.

Courses & Residential Painting Holidays

If you like the idea of spending some fun, creative time in lovely surroundings while learning to paint, primarily in the great outdoors, then please do have a look at the courses and painting holidays that I’m teaching.  For courses of shorter duration see Workshops.

Video Tuition For Watercolour Landscape Painting

I offer tuition in video format, which you can buy per video from my Vimeo channel.  I also have free demonstration videos on YouTube to give you a taster. See the watercolour painting video tuition page for details of all the available videos.

Watercolour Painting Workshops

I teach some one and two-day workshops each year at well-known establishments such as Windrush Gallery, The Sandpiper Studio, East Devon Art Academy and Truro Arts Centre.  These are brief and thoughtfully structured introductions to my approach to painting and typically include demonstrations, exercises and some step-by-step painting.  Being bold, and potentially out of your comfort zone is, I believe, the best way to learn and develop as a painter, so I feel you shouldn’t be taking home a masterpiece, but rather some useful ideas to work with.
See below for upcoming workshops.

Workshops at Art Groups

I also regularly visit art groups and societies around the country.  Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this.

One-To-One Watercolour Painting Tuition In Bristol

For many people there is no better way of learning than through dedicated one-to-one tuition.  This is based at my home studio in south Bristol.

Watercolour Painting Demonstrations

In demonstration I aim to explain the main principles I typically work to, show the range of techniques I use and the energy I put into my painting. I really like these occasions to be as sociable and ‘interactive’ as possible, so no need to hold back on the heckling.

Articles & Writing

Since 2015 I’ve been a contributor to Leisure Painter magazine, always working to ensure my articles are of practical benefit to the reader (see: http://www.painters-online.co.uk/ for more info). In the past I’ve also written for New Artist, Paint & Draw, and Paint (magazine of the SAA; Society for All Artists). In 2016 I wrote/designed the current ‘Watercolour Diploma’ course for London Art College.
